Winston-Salem, NC: The ECHO Council invites the public to come downtown to celebrate the launch of the StoryLine project with a street-party at noon on April 29 at 4th Street and Trade in the big grassy lot next to One Park Vista. In case of rain the event will take place inside the Millennium Center at Trade St. and 5th Street. A dramatic unveiling of the StoryLine Bus, the project’s mobile recording studio, will be the climax of the event. The StoryLine Launch Party will also feature live music by local musicians, free hot dogs and gelato (donated by Café Prada) and the chance to tour the StoryLine Bus: a former bookmobile that’s been converted into a state-of-the art mobile recording studio.
What is StoryLine?
StoryLine is a volunteer-led effort to collect and share the stories of everyday people in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. The stories will be gathered via the StoryLine Bus, a mobile recording studio that will travel to community events, churches, diverse neighborhoods, schools and other venues. StoryLine was created by The ECHO Council to honor the rich diversity of voices in our community and to celebrate our history, hopes and common humanity—thereby building trusting relationships in Forsyth County.
“For the past two years, a dedicated group of over 100 community volunteers have been working to bring this exciting community project to life,” states Gail Fisher, ECHO Council Member and Lead StoryLine Volunteer. “It is our hope that by listening to the stories of others, we will nurture a spirit of awareness, respect, and connection in our community.”
How will the stories be shared in the community?
With permission from Story Pairs, a limited number of edited StoryLine conversations will be broadcast weekly on the project’s four partner radio stations: WFDD (88.5 FM), WSJS (600/1200 AM), Que Pasa Radio WYSR (1590 AM) and WSNC (90.5FM). Edited stories will also appear on www.storylineproject.org.php5-13.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com and at listening events held throughout our community.
How does it work?
Two people who know each other (and have a reservation) will enter the mobile StoryLine recording studio. A trained, volunteer facilitator from our local community will then guide each conversation pair through their 40-minute recording session. Before they leave they receive a free broadcast-quality CD of their conversation. A second copy will be part of a permanent archive of our community’s stories.
StoryLine sponsors include: The Winston-Salem Foundation, SPEVCO, CJMW, M Creative, and Spot Recording.
StoryLine is committed to inclusiveness and welcomes all members of our community to participate. For more information visit www.storylineproject.org.php5-13.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com
